Barbara Ann Corcoran was born on March 10, 1949. She is an American investor and speaker as well as consultant. The Corcoran Group is a New York City-based real-estate brokerage. In 2001, it was transferred to NRT at $66 million. Corcoran quit the firm shortly thereafter. Corcoran is among ABC's original Shark Tank investors. To date, she has been in each season of Shark Tank. Corcoran has signed 53 deals in February of 2020. Her largest deal was her investment of $350,000 in Coverplay for 40%. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the youngest of 10 children from a working class Irish Catholic family. Florence Corcoran was Florence's mom and also a housekeeper. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was constantly moving from one job to the next during Corcoran's youth. The family relied on the food provided by an artisanal local grocery store for free food. Corcoran remembers her father, who was a drunk at times too much, and treated her mother disrespectfully and condescendingly, particularly after he'd had a few drinks. Corcoran was a struggle throughout her education, later learning that she had dyslexia. Corcoran entered the high school system in St. Cecilia High School Englewood after she had left her Catholic elementary school. After failing several courses in her first year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School, where she received a grade of D.
